ABOUT SEA BELLES OF HARMONY INC.
Sea Belles, Inc. is a chapter of Harmony Inc. The chorus chartered in 1969 and was the first Atlantic Canada ladies Barbershop chorus.
In 1968 It didn’t take a lot of persuading by a representative from Harmony Incorporated to convince some local ladies to answer the advertisement. Joan Buckland proceeded to organize a group of her lady friends. They met and Sea Belles was formed.
After a training program in 1970 which was attended by representatives from other choruses in our area, the Atlantic provinces, the Sea Belles moved on to establishing themselves as a chorus willing to work hard, have fun and enjoy each other’s talents and company. That tradition continues today.
Over the years Sea Belles have been instrumental in assisting other choruses to join Harmony Inc.
The Sea Belles attend and compete at our Area 1 competition each year. A significant amount of work, skill, training and dedication go into preparing for Competition; but we don’t forget to have fun as well. We love to meet up with other Area 1 Chorus members with whom many of us have bonded and made lifelong friendships.
We also attend International Competitions from time to time. This very much depends on sufficient fund raising, and a good number of Sea Belles who can attend. This too is a wonderful experience as we have opportunities to meet many very skilled choruses from Canada and the USA.
Sea Belles are known for their charitable contributions to our local communities. This includes donations to the North End Food Bank and Romero House annually. We perform at Nursing Homes and other charitable events when invited. Sea Belles perform for a fee at other events throughout the year. We especially enjoy bringing our musical talents to the Nursing Homes where the residents look forward to our contribution to brighten their days and evenings.
We work hard and have fun at our weekly rehearsal which are held every Tuesday night during the fall, winter and spring. Sea Belles, through our Director and coaches, learn about music techniques, theory, and presentation techniques. We welcome guests to any practice. All they need to know is how to sing a tune, in tune and the process to become a Sea Belle begins.
Welcome to Sea Belles. Now you know a bit about us, we would like to get to know you and welcome you to our wonderful chorus.
