SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK, OCTOBER 27, 2017- What could be more exciting than preparing for an international a cappella competition? Having that competition come to Atlantic Canada, that’s what!

During the first week of November, Harmony, Incorporated brings its International Convention and Contests 2017 to Halifax, Nove Scotia at the World Trade and Convention Centre. Sea Belles A Cappella Chorus, having qualified for International by placing second at the Atlantic competition in June, will compete against women’s barbershop choruses from across Canada and the US.

The five-day event includes chorus and quartet competitions, education classes, gala shows and of course, lots of singing as friends old and new blend in harmony.

On Friday the focus shifts to the chorus competition. Sea Belles A Cappella is ranked thirteenth out of Harmony, Incorporated’s twenty-six qualifying choruses for the international competition.

Director Janet Kidd shares the anticipation and enthusiasm of the whole chorus. “We are really looking forward to welcoming all the other Harmony Inc choruses to our area. And even though the competition itself is exciting, it’s renewing friendships with our singing colleagues from all over Canada and the US that is really the most fun!!

Sea Belles will also be cheering for other Atlantic competing choruses and quartets when they take the stage. Atlantic Canada is well represented at the event with top Atlantic chorus ScotianAires from Halifax, NS, Valley Voices from Kentville, NS, and the Elm City Echoes of Fredericton, NB also competing in the chorus competition. Island A Cappella of Prince Edward Island will compete Thursday in the chorus silver division with the winner advancing to the Friday chorus finals. In the quartet competition, Tonic! And Enjoy! from Halifax, NS and Gotta Sing!!!! from Fredericton, NB is competing.

If you find yourself in downtown Halifax from November 1-5, you can take in some of the excitement. The chorus and quartet competitions on Thursday and Friday and the finals of the quartet competition on Saturday all take place in the Grand Ballroom of the World Trade Convention Center and are open to the public at a cost of $20 ($10 youth). You can also attend The Parade of Champions on Friday night (also in the Grand Ballroom) with admission by donation at the door.
