Founding Member and Honorary Member Recognized

Sea Belles Dedicate New Mural to Founding Member
Also recognize former Honorary Member

Sea Belles have lost several of its long term retired members this past year.

On February 20, 2017, Lorraine Haslett, founding member as well as Lead in one of Sea Belles’ first quartets, Pitch Folk, passed away. In appreciation of Sea Belles singing at Lorraine’s funeral, her family made a donation to the chorus. Using the talents of an aspiring young local artist, a mural was created in our new rehearsal hall in Lorraine’s memory.

A special celebration in November with Lorraine’s family, unveiled the new mural and presented the chorus’s donation back to Sea Belle member’s Daughter and artist, Abi Reinhart.

In the future, the┬áchorus plans to add other retired members’ names who have made significant contributions to the chorus.

On January 20, 2018, Sea Belles also said a sad farewell to a long term retired Sea Belle and honorary member, Mary Nixon.

Many members fondly remembered singing at Mary’s 90th birthday party last August. It was our pleasure to answer the family’s request to sing at Mary’s well attended funeral. It seemed only appropriate that our Basses came out in force to sing their hearts out as Mary was a fabulous Bass.

Sea Belles’ quartet Nova Quattro also sang Mary’s favourite song, Swing Low Sweet Chariot.

Farewell to another Area 1 Harmony, Inc. Sister!
